The Draper Company machine shops face an intensifying strike as talks fail this afternoon. Leaders vow to close the Draper shops within 48 hours. I. W. W. organizer Caleb F. Howard was rushed to Hopedale to handle nonstriking American workers.
Thus far 300 officers from Boston and nearby towns have managed the situation but with the demands refused, officials warn that trouble could erupt at any moment and prompt action may be required.
London April 3. Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst sentenced to three years penal servitude for inciting destruction of property. Old Bailey judge Sir Charles Montague Lush delivered the ruling as the militant leader remained defiant. A top militant warned that human lives might no longer be respected.
In London and Glasgow, crowds cheered Mrs. Pankhurst as leaders vowed to continue the suffrage fight during her incarceration. Anonymous and militant statements urged defiance toward the government and urged women to take definite action amid recent property attacks on occupied residences.
The Crowninshield Hotel in Marblehead was totally destroyed by fire last night causing about 35000 in losses. Fire brigades from Salem and Swampscott helped protect nearby summer residences of George A Brown and C Clark. Police investigate a possible arson linked to trespassers seen nearby.
A fire at the Crowninshield Hotel on Crowninshield lane destroyed the 50 room structure two and a half stories high discovered around 6 PM. Ruth Lan tor 17 of Peabody was struck by a motorcycle rider Eli Morin Salem fracturing her skull and was placed on the dangerous list at Salem Hospital. Fire crews from Marblehead Swampscott and Salem fought the blaze and saved an annex while nearby luxury homes were protected. The hotel formerly the Benjamin Ware farm had operated as a hotel for ten years and was to be run by Mrs. C N Ware of Brookline. owner Samuel Krebs of Brookline.
Emma C Mimart sues Paul Mimart noted clarinetist with the Boston Symphony for divorce. Papers were filed in Dedham and moved to Suffolk Superior Court for alimony pendente lite hearing.
Emma Crosskill accuses husband renowned clarinetist Perpowescu Mimart of cruel treatment and seeks divorce in New York court. She requests restoration of her maiden name and alimony, while his restraint from interference is sought. Lena Bradley, alias Mrs. Schram, is described as a 30 year old, tall mother of two who has disappeared since Christmas amid fraud charges against the Shevlins and Miss Kate Brennan.
Police announce a rule that officers cannot arrest a woman for carrying hat pins unless they secure a warrant at the station. The notice emphasizes caution on street encounters involving projecting pins.
Commissioner O Meara issued a general order redefining violations of the new hat pin law as misdemeanors and directing officers to seek summonses. He urged use of known offender names or provided names and addresses, and warned officers to act only with solid proof to avoid unjustly summoning respectable women and girls.
