Chicago April 3 Extra precautions will be taken to prevent fraud at the municipal election tomorrow. A mayor will be chosen amid charges of fraudulent registration in downtown wards. Special orders have been issued by the Election Board and police to safeguard polling places and arrest repeaters.
Chief of Police Steward orders all officers to report for duty tomorrow with one officer per precinct. The Election Commission appoints 200 special officers in downtown wards. Leading candidates Carter H. Harrison and Charles K. E. Merriam each arrange watchers in every precinct. Betting favors Harrison at 7 to 5.
Professor Merriam and a Republican slate secure student backing at the University of Chicago as voting day nears. Opponents of Harrison cite widespread city saloons and ward bosses including Kenna and Coughlin. Ensign Loftin and Miss Hazel Loftin wed in a spur of the moment ceremony after a theatre performance in Boston. The couple, aided by Rev. Elwood Worcester, received a license earlier in the day and used a taxi to reach the Hotel Westminster for a wedding dinner before heading to the Hotel Touraine. Mrs Loftin, a Violin student from Albion, New York, studies at the Conservatory and will resume after her husband returns to Portsmouth to join his ship. Loftin, an Annapolis graduate, joined the service from Arkansas in 1904. The marriage is to be kept quiet and no permanent home is decided.
In Buchanan Michigan, five years after Hudson Burton's death a phonograph record claimed to reveal the location of buried gold was broken when a lawyer carrying it into the heirs tripped over a footstool. The record was destroyed, leaving the heirs without the clue.
In Brockton on April 3 preparations for Lt Walter J L Clark of the Seventy third Regiment and Miss Lillian Doane were halted when War Department orders require Clark to report to duty in Galveston Texas. Invitations were issued for a Thursday wedding at Porter Congregational Church. Clark, on revocable furlough from Fort Monroe, will leave for Texas tomorrow. Miss Doane hopes to wed in June if possible.
John Kelly of 8 Acorn Street Cambridge received a blood transfusion last Thursday night from his son. He walked a half mile from Cambridge Relief Hospital to his home last night in perfect health without fatigue.

Three Black Hand letters threaten the abduction of Annie and Fannie Lewitsky daughters of Philip Lewitsky a Boston wool merchant living at 258 Broadway Malden. The family fears forcible removal to New York and has sought police protection as the Malden department keeps their home under constant surveillance.
Three letters warning of abduction were sent to Mrs. Lewitsky and later to the family business. The writer demanded $2000 left at Malden China Company steps and threatened to abduct Annie a high school sophomore and Fannie aged 16. Police surveillance failed to prevent the third letter and trap.
In Albany on April 3 historian Paltsits recovered a burned but legible document from the Boston fire of 1760. The appeal by Massachusetts Governor Thomas Pownall to New York Governor sought contributions for relief of sufferers.
