A bill to create a permanent five man board to succeed the harbor and land commissioners in Boston harbor tasks will be presented to the Legislature by the Chamber of Commerce. The metropolitan improvements committee drew the bill which calls for an immediate harbor improvement and sets hearings for today or tomorrow.
A chamber headed plan seeks removal of a 3 million dollar constraint on East Boston development funds and pushes immediate pier construction. The bill creates a five member Directors of the Port of Boston with a paid executive, a yearly report requirement, and power to allocate harbor funds for piers highways rail links and warehouse sites.
Felix Faust of New York was killed when an auto owned by P. A. Warner struck a tree in Daytona. Doris McDonald and Gertrude Pfeiffer, both of Boston, were fatally hurt, while Emma Laird of Boston and William Thompson of New York and Clyde Spring of Daytona were injured in the crash during a morning joy ride.
Mr. Warner left the Hotel Clarendon for the winter, sending the car home with chauffeur Faust who later took five friends for a joy ride. At 70 mph the driver lost control, the car struck two trees, burned, and Faust died from neck and skull injuries. The McDonald girl sustained severe injuries and Gertrude Pfeiffer is expected to die. Doris MacDonald, soon to wed a Savannah line officer, has no known relatives. The Clarendon wireless station hunts her fiancé as the doctor warns Doris may live only hours.

Mary Adelaide Yerkes widow of Charles T. Yerkes died at 9 46 p m in New York after years of poor health. Once Mary Moore she married Yerkes then Mizner before final years of isolation in the Yerkes mansion and later Madison Avenue home.
After an hour’s wait for a performance, over half the audience left for refunds when the box office closed. Officers from Dedham Street Station restored order as the Bessie Thomas Beforo company from New York was to present a Yiddish play but reportedly faced payment disputes. The show started after police arrived and attendees returned to their seats.
A basement fire in a five story tenement at 362 364 and 366 North Street forced residents to flee in night clothes. Firemen carried out two children and helped about two score other occupants escape to the street.
Firefighters Captain O'Brien and Lieutenant Cole of Mmragine 25 Fort Hil Square rescued nine month old Mary Millie and her siblings Leo and Nicholas from dense smoke at 362 North Street. Mrs Millie, in nightwear, escaped outside with the infant while the firemen entered the rear store room to pull the children from the bed. They wrapped the kids in their coats and carried them to the street as the fire from the cellar spread, awakening more than two score residents. The blaze caused extensive damage and the fire cause remains unknown though losses run into hundreds of dollars.
The Congregational meeting house in New Braintree Worcester county burned late today from an overheated stove. North Brookfield’s fire apparatus aided the townsfolk, but could not prevent the blaze. Loss estimated at not less than 25000 dollars. the building dated to 1846 and served as town hall with the town clock and an ancient bell falling from the steeple as the fire consumed the structure.
The body of William H. H. Willett, 70, was found hanging from a barn rafter at 292 Franklin Street South Quincy this morning by his son-in-law George Ebexheimer. He had been ill and despondent since his wife’s death a year earlier and was a longtime letter carrier with the Quincy post office and a member of the local post of the G A R.
Vice-President Byrnes discusses railway rate increases under the 1908 law granting full mile charges for fractions. He notes New Haven mileage rises, and that all changes are increases due to exact old surveys. He does not explain why Lawrence and South Lawrence gained two miles and other stations up to three miles.
J. H. Hustis Assistant General Manager of the Boston and Albany Railroad states there have been no mileage changes or tariff adjustments. He notes railroads may change mileages when station locations shift, but the Boston and Albany has not done so.
Vice-President Timothy E. Byrnes of the New Haven and Boston & Maine claims mileage increases were made by the system’s general passenger agent and that Lucius Tuttle may not have known. He notes surveys found no opportunities to shorten distances and says corrections did not reveal any mile decreases.
Officials confirm mileage hikes on the New Haven and Boston and Maine systems with scattered examples in New York State. The 1908 law allowed full mileages for each mile or fraction traveled, prompting conductors to change coupons and leading to adjusted passbook charges under the passenger department.

A bomb blast rocked the La Favorita area as revelers fled. Police and soldiers stormed the dance hall and a roof troop reportedly threw bombs aimed at the State prison. Lenora was killed and companions wounded. two bombers escaped. more arrests and a street-wide cordon followed as witnesses were gathered and the city remained tense.
