The audience Roosevelt hoped for with the Pope will not occur due to Vatican conditions he refuses to accept. Negotiations ended after Roosevelt left Egypt and a Roman intercession failed. The talk of a papal audience sparked sensational debate in Rome.

More than a thousand Melrose residents prepare to flood the Cambridge Probate Court by six this morning for the closing chapter of a disputed Russell estate claim. The North Dakota claimant, rumored to be Daniel Blake Russell, is expected to be paraded into court as the true heir with backing from executor Ferdinand Almy and Williams C. Russell’s lawyers.

President Taft expresses distrust of sham virtue in labor. He supports labor organizations and would join if able. He places labor rights above all, opposes boycotts and sympathetic strikes as ineffective and blindsided actions.
President Taft spoke at Mechanics Hall to about 2000 railway workers. He endorsed labor organizations while affirming workers may choose to join or abstain. He urged safety appliance laws and employer liability, stirring applause and later renewed enthusiasm among the crowd.
He left the city tonight with an 8 10 boat train bound for New London and on to Washington. During the 11 hours in Millbury he met relatives at his aunt’s home and attended church. He was the central figure in a monster parade and spoke for over an hour to railroad men at Mechanics Hall, making his visit an eventful day.
The Cambridge Probate Court will hear 20 applicants this morning regarding a Fresno claimant to a title. Admission is by ticket. 1400 Melrose residents requested tickets. Supporters plan to pack the courtroom or wait outside if barred from entry.
