Tragic Death in Chelsea Lamp Black Factory Tank
Francis M. McCormack aged 19 of 127 Williams Street Chelsea died after entering an empty tank to clean its bottom at the Samuel Cabot lamp black factory on Marginal Street. A benzoin explosion followed, flames engulfed the tank, and firemen rescued his body only after cooling the vessel and filling it with water.
