Fire Burns Rockaway House. Family Perishes in Escape

In Morris county Rockaway, Newark reports a Sunday morning blaze destroyed the dwelling of John Giveren. His wife and three children died in the fire while Giveren escaped by leaping from a second story window. The origin is described as accidental. The event occurred in Port Dickinson, N Y.

Fall of 4 Coal Breaker At Carbondale Mines

A gashed trestle at the Lackawanna breaker in Carbondale collapsed during a gale, igniting fires among crushed timbers. Two men John Clarke and Dwight Moses, and a boy William Palmer were fatally injured, with several boys believed dead in the flames. Miner Rosser died from a coal fall at the same site.

Storm Damage Strikes East St Louis and Across River

Widespread wreckage reported in East St Louis as a roof is blown from Terre Haute Railroad roundhouse and locomotives are damaged. Two men John Myers and another hurt, steamer Yeager and ferry lose chimneys, Northwestern blown across the river. Market house section 150 by 45 by 25 feet destroyed, estimated rebuild cost ten thousand dollars. Butcher losses about ten thousand. John Hicke dies, Mrs Floe not expected to live.

Bandits Rob Rail Line and Madrid Mail Train

A band of robbers attacked the Madrid and Andalusia Railway between Valdepnas and Manzanares last week after removing rails. Guards resisted when the mail train was stopped. Shots fired, one guard officer and a passenger wounded. Bandits took all accessible money, about 3000 pounds.
