Death of famed Bowery jumper Steve Brodie on a Michigan train
Steve Brodie known as the King of the Bowery and a bridge jumper and actor died on a Lake Shore and Michigan Southern train near Adrian Michigan after a long illness. Born Christmas Day 1851 in New York his life featured dramatic feats from 100 mile walks to 148 foot bridge jumps. He supported newsboys and gave to education funds while his career spanned theatre and vaudeville. He left behind a sizeable estate, a wife Gertrude Lord, and a legacy as a defining New York figure.
