No Protection for Trusts in Tariff Amendment

Washington March 31 In the Senate today Pettigrew proposed an amendment to the tariff bill. It would remove from duty any article of domestic production or manufacture that is controlled by a trust or combination aiming to prevent competition. Any contract or conspiracy restraining production or fixing prices would be a trust. Citizens may sue to determine trust existence, and if a federal court rules a trust exists, such articles would be admitted free of duty. The U S Circuit Court would be the final court of appeal. Duties on raw materials would apply, but higher duties on refined articles would not if the article is the subject of a trust.
