Cutcaco March 1 William Blunck aged 14 and Thomas Lavienne aged 15 were sentenced to forty years in the penitentiary for the May 15 1892 murder of Albert Eckroth. The pair held up Eckroth on Western avenue shot him through the heart and robbed a watch. Their youth spared them the death penalty.

Surgeon Timothy Townsend Dies in New York Hotel

Timothy Beers Townsend died in the Buckingham Hotel in New York on March 21. Born in New Haven in 1836, he graduated from New Haven Medical College at 23, studied surgery in Dublin Edinburgh and Paris, and became a renowned American surgeon. Train wrecking attempt near Drain shocks Oregon

Port land Oregon March 31 An attempt to wreck the north bound Southern Pacific train near Drain failed after George E Richardson a laborer from Drain found a rail on the trestle attacked by five men knocked unconscious and pushed from the bridge. He flagged the overland train and the crew found the missing rail. Passengers raised a $100 purse for Richardson. Authorities suspect revenge on the railroad for white workers being discharged and Japanese being employed.
