Mayor Vetoes Road Resolution Over Utility and Cost Concerns

City council in regular session fails to override Mayor Shelby's veto of a street improvement resolution under the three mile gravel road law. The veto cites no public utility, impractical route, high costs, and tax impact. Several street and lighting petitions are acted on, with permits granted and bids noted, including two pedestal lamp posts near the Colonial theater and a pedestrian lock at McDaniel Bros. site. Building permits awarded for residential and business additions, and engineer directed to alter West South street specifications to brick approaches.
