Mike Bezera suffered a heavy steel staple driven through his thumb and the calf ear after a fence line mishap. Attempts to remove the staple failed, forcing a small ear tissue cut to reach a doctor. In Buena Vista Colorado on June 12 four of six young convicts who escaped from the Colorado reformatory after kidnapping Warden Walter Johnson were captured twenty six miles away in the mountains. They surrendered without resistance.

Votes Again To Stay On Job And Try Settle Issue

In Austin on June 12 the Texas House again refused to set a date to adjourn the 154 day session. A 68 to 60 vote defeated Rep Bryan Bradbury’s plan to end the session June 20 as lawmakers debated paying off age pensions and state social security obligations via taxes. Senate joint resolution 12, proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing a 2 percent sales tax and higher natural resources taxes, was aided by the Senate but failed by six votes in its third House reading. The measure, supported by Gov. Lee O'Daniel, may return this week.
