Secretary of Agriculture Kara T Benson said the United States will not dump surplus farm products on world markets in a cut throat race for sales. A late dispatch reports several other brief items from Calgary Washington Havana New York Houston San Diego and San Jose.
The House Appropriations Committee denied $6.5 million for the Dixon-Yates private power project and redirected funds to TVA. It approved a $1.277 billion federal power, flood control, and rivers and harbors bill, with large cuts to the Atomic Energy Commission and other agencies. The panel’s action, amid controversy, sets up a heated floor fight next week.
The Sixth District Grand Jury completed Honey Grove election probe with two general recommendations to guard ballot box integrity. The panel urged officials supervising elections to ensure proper conduct and to provide suitable facilities for county elections, noting 13 indictments including forgery burglary and car theft. Trial dates set for Monday.
Nominations for Fannin County Father of the Year reach new highs with big numbers on Wednesday and Thursday. Deadline is Monday at 12 o clock noon. letters must be postmarked to The Daily Favorite. A panel of three judges will choose the winner from letters under 100 words. The son or daughter wins a cash prize from The Daily Favorite, and the father receives gifts from local merchants including shirts, belts, a sport shirt, a $250 Hoff trade certificate, a fishing bucket, a hat, and grooming services from Van Kirk and McMurry Barber Shop.
Judge Jim Sewell re invites Mrs EP Weinert of Seguin to join Paul Butler the national Democratic chairman on his Texas tour. Weinert had refused the first invitation, claiming the trip would worsen Texas Democratic rifts. Sewell extended a second invitation hoping for unity and harmony among Democrats in Texas and America.
Bonham recorded a morning low around 54 degrees as a cool front drops temperatures to a June low. Light showers touched downtown with heavier periods downtown, and the forecast calls for warming up by Saturday with more showers possible tonight and Saturday.

Capt Edward W Pence son of Clyde W Pence of Bonham has graduated from the Army Transportation School officers advanced course at Fort Eustis Virginia. The program provides officers with knowledge of military transportation including marine aviation rail highway and movement control. Pence is a University of Tennessee graduate who entered the Army in July 199.
The Bonham Civil Air Patrol unit earned a letter of commendation from Col George A Brewer Je, commanding officer of the Texas Wing CAP, for Armed Forces Week work. Lt Col Edward N. Wolff, U S Army artillery advisor, visited Bonham and presented the commendation to Capt Dan Stitler and unit officers.
Congressional leaders propose a plan to push Eisenhower’s military reserve bill through Congress. The Senate would strip anti segregation language, send it to the House for conference, and then return a stripped bill for a final vote without the Powell amendment.
Associate Justice Will Wilson of the Texas Supreme Court condemned strict party segregation. Speaking at Lone Star Boys State, he warned a split would end the two party system and force voters into an extreme liberal or extreme conservative choice.
County Judge Choice Moore announced that all but one tract of right of way for the farm to market road from State Highway 74 through Edhube to State Highway 123 has been secured. Condemnation actions were authorized, with an appraisal board of Tom Denton, Ira Turner, and Wallace Smith appointed to value and offer to the remaining landowner.
