Bonn, June 9. West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer said West Germany would stand with the United States and the western allies and would consider a top level conference with the Soviet Union under proper circumstances. He stressed no immediate German Russian conference and urged an exchange of views to clarify questions before any meeting. He would discuss his position with President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Eden if asked.
M. B. Nelson of Bonham and Curtis N. Cochran of Leonard are among 51 people who completed a University of Texas short course in driver education for teachers. Nelson will lead the Bonham high school driver course starting the 1955 56 term, with the district’s trustees approving the program this spring.
In November 1956 Texans will vote on nine constitutional amendments from the 54th Legislature led by a $100 million extension of the veterans land program. The package includes expanding the teacher retirement system and broadening the University Permanent Fund investments to include common stocks. The plan also adds Lamar Tech and Texas Southern University to the fund, removes four colleges, and allows payment to wrongfully imprisoned individuals.
Two Oklahoma City brothers aged 10 and 14 are in Fannin county custody awaiting their father. They stole a car and wrecked it near Hopkins Wrecking Yard on Highway 82 east of Bonham. Officers say they hitchhiked from Oklahoma City carrying blankets, pecans, matches, and planned to camp out.
Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov indicated to French Premier Faure that Russia would accept the West’s invitation to a Geneva Big Four meeting July 18-21. London June 0 Queen Elizabeth II opened Britain's parliament amid an austerity mood caused by a railway strike and fuel shortages. She vowed a close accord with the United States and signaled confident talks with the Soviet Union while outlining emergency measures to maintain supplies.
Governor Allan Shivers arrived in Los Angeles to deliver a commencement speech at the University of Southern California. He defended his views on racial desegregation in Texas, saying he would not dodge the criticism from USC students and faculty and that the Texas House backed his stance as a great statesman.
Ex students of Savoy College face possible final reunion as many members die in the past year. The 1955 gathering in Savoy High School auditorium includes speeches by Cora Tacy Conway Leon ard Flekman Temple and Wiley Hutchens Pemple. Memorial service closes the afternoon program.
Edwin O Neal Willy of Baltimore Maryland suffered property damage when his cup vehicle ran off U S 83 into a ditch about two and a half miles east of Bonham. Jim Grimes of the U S Air Force was a passenger. Patrolman J L Smith said Willis nodded off and the car left the road.
Bonham Lions Club featured a film titled Training with the Cardinals. Attendees included Mrs. Lucille Reed of Trenton Highway Patrolman J I Sunita and Claude Vaughan as part of the program.
