4 H club members plan their annual Christmas party in the courthouse assembly room on Saturday at 30 a.m. Bondi students will collect and repair toys starting at 7 p.m. and the toys will be donated to the Pastors' Association for Christmas boxes.
US 1st Cavalry reports 146 Communists killed near Bong Son on Bong Son Plain nine miles northwest. Battle involved about 800 Americans. no US casualties reported. Separately 37 guerrillas and a 15 year old nurse surrendered near Loc An, the largest defect to date. Casualty figures for last week cite 207 Americans, 286 South Vietnamese, 1,554 Communists killed. US kill ratio 26 to 1.
Whitey Baccus told attendees at the football banquet Tuesday that he might accept the presidency of the Quarterback Club so he could be among the first through the chow line. He joked about finally sitting at the first table after six years at the last.
San Angelo Police Chief Melvin James said a valid and authentic plot to kill Arkansas Governor Rockefeller has substantial underworld backing. He announced he had informed Rockefeller and noted ongoing investigations with a man questioned but not charged.

Funeral services for 23 year old Jerry Edward Blackburn of Bonham were set for Thursday at Wise Funeral Chapel with full military rites by Fort Hood. Blackburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgie Blackburn and Boyd Blackburn, was killed in Vietnam on Sunday November 24 near Lai Khe by a sniper while on patrol. He attended Bonham schools, worked at Wild cemetery, and entered the Army January 13. Survivors include two brothers and multiple sisters.
Marine Captain Charles Robb and Lynda Bird John wed at the White House with a subdued ceremony planned in the East Room. The couple will reside at 3566 Valley Street in Arlington before Robb departs for Vietnam, while gifts from dignitaries and leaders flood Washington.

UPI reports more than 306000 killed in six years of South Vietnam fighting. Of the dead, two of three were Communist. 15265 Americans and 92300 South Vietnamese died. Weekly losses include 207 Americans killed and 634 wounded. End-week American strength at 470000. Communist strength 223000–248000 with 75000–85000 operating south of the frontier.
Louis Washkansky, 55, temporarily left his sterilized room in an oxygen tent for a few minutes to be wheeled outside. Nurses waved to him as he returned to the room before being taken to radiotherapy for treatment. A hospital spokesman said the oxygen tent was removed briefly during the radiotherapy session.
