Residents recall 1966 quail season as hunters killed the covey leaving none for seed while other hunters returned to the area repeatedly. A rural mailbox damage note warns the offense carries federal penalties and possible jail. At a Lions Club gathering Bill Cheatham introduces his guest as daughter and then daughter-in-law.
Pop Mahaney did not keep the old car stolen from him for long after it was recovered in Denigon. He sold it the next day saying he was just getting rid of temptation.
Deward Hazal and Burr Holt struggled to start Burr’s electric hand saw when a faulty connection occurred. Hazal unplugged the cord to inspect it and the saw briefly started, then ran when replugged and stopped when unplugged again. Hazal exclaimed it was the strangest thing he ever saw.
Sheriff Dudley Jackson said two of the FBI's most wanted suspects Robert Lee Gowne and William Thomas Banks, with a female companion Katherine Striker, were not arrested in Bonham. They stayed briefly in a Bonham motel, spent about $500, and were later apprehended in El Paso during a nationwide murder for forgery case.
The ACLU opposes non military service as a draft alternative like the Peace Corps. Executive Director John Del. Pemberton said such proposals would introduce regimentation associated with a totalitarian state in a letter to House and Senate Armed Services Committee chairs.

U S Air Force F4C Phantoms shot down two MIG21s over the Red River Valley, the eighth and ninth in a week. The raid included four B52s dropping about one million pounds of bombs from Saigon to the DMZ. Ground fighting continued with Viet Cong overrunning a government outpost west of Saigon and a Mekong Delta sweep underway. An RF4C was rescued after ground fire. a Navy A-6 Skyhawk is listed as missing.
County officers investigated a Savoy burglary and fire with an estimated loss of 600 dollars. Sherif Dudley Jackson led the probe into a storage shed break in which burglars ripped off a lock to steal gasoline from a drum. Deputy H R Van Zandt said a cigarette lighter lit fumes causing the blaze. Davis owned the shed and valued tools lost at 350 dollars. A Savoy fire truck contained the flames before they spread.
A strong cold front with high winds and sub freezing temperatures heads into the Bonham region, bringing lows in the 20s. The five day outlook shows little rain and temperatures 1 to 16 degrees below normal for North Texas. Saturday morning highs in the 40s follow a morning low in the 40s with a high in the 60s forecast this afternoon. Hazardous travel from Panhandle snow and blowing winds may create drifts.

Army engineers revised the Bois d Arc flood control plan moving the reservoir upstream to protect 25 to 30 miles of Bois d Arc bottom. The project, about 10 to 15 million dollars, would include downstream channel improvements and provide 25 to 30 million gallons daily. Bonham would not face Timber Creek water needs, with recreation and sponsorship by Bonham likely.
Firefighters responded Friday morning to a grass fire along the fence boundary at the construction site near the Junior High School on North Center Street.
Forrest Copeland was elected president of the Bonham Chamber of Commerce at a board meeting. Dr. E. G. Carney became vice president and John Meade treasurer. New directors include Roby Windham Jerry Owens Hal Horton and Doss Clark. The banquet on Jan 26 will introduce the new officers and directors.
Henry Joe Fletcher, Fannin County tax collector, reports only 718 residents registered to qualify to vote in 1967. He warns many may be ineligible for trustee city or special elections unless they register. Registration is annual and available in person or by mail. no sub stations will be opened.
The late Speaker Sam Ray born January 6, 1882 in Roane County Tennessee would have turned 85 today June 6. Friends nationwide recall him with respect and tribute though no official observance is planned.
H. T. Reynolds of Roxton reported seeing a car fail to dim lights as he passed near Bonham late Thursday night. A cow in the road on Highway 78 left the animal with a broken leg and caused about 150 dollars in damage to the vehicle.
