The trial of Herschel Ashlock charged by complaint with a violation of state liquor law was reset for Friday in County Court. Judge Choice Moore granted a defense request for more time to prepare for the presentation in court.

The National Farm Loan Association plans a Thursday meeting at the American Theatre in Bonham to discuss loans and annual reports. The United States plans another atoms for peace meeting to build on the Geneva first congress. President Eisenhower authorized Adm. Strauss to express hope for a second conference in two to three years as scientists study atomic knowledge. Delegates and newsmen heard the call in Geneva.
Mission officials dynamited approaches to the low level river bridge at Laredo Monday night to prevent destruction by flood. The Rio Grande crested upstream, washing out the permanent bridge. a temporary pontoon bridge remained open to pedestrians but closed to vehicles. Crews said the damaged truck bridge approaches on both sides would require days to rebuild, while Mexico’s action helped preserve the remaining structure.

Airman Daniel Schmidt of California filed to sue for divorce after Una Schmidt remarried during his two year Chinese captivity. Attorney Howard Welch said the case will allege extreme mental cruelty. custody of their 2 year old son may be sought. Schmidt, a B 29 crewman shot down in Korea, returned home after two months as a prisoner.
James B Smith 22 admitted to police in Denver that he killed his grandmother Mrs Daisy Betterston 67 of Attica Iowa with a shovel in anger and burned her body during a cross Nebraska flight. The bloodstained shovel was found near the Betterston home after she went missing. Smith was arrested Monday night at a sister in law’s home and signed a statement confessing the crime.
John Thomas Stallings, a longtime Leonard resident and former farmer, died Monday night at Shaw Rest Home in Greenville at age 99. Born May 25, 1856 in Meridian, Mississippi, he lived in Leonard since 1886, survived by one son Ross Stallings of Houston, two step-sons J C Dennis of San Angelo and Q O Dennis of Pauls Valley, one step-daughter Alice Pierce of Merritt, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Leonard Methodist Church, with Rev. A R Morgan and Rev. Lee officiating. Pat Wilson Funeral Home of Leonard to handle arrangements.
