Durant Oklahoma August 2 Montgomery Oklahoma superintendent of the Curkasna ORM schools announced he would accept appointment as president of Southstrte State College. He made no statement after visiting Durant to inspect the college buildings. The college board of regents on Sunday ousted JL Posey and named Montgomery to succeed Posey.

In Pineville Missouri Aug 2 workers who helped film the movie Jesse James learned they will be paid by the state unemployment office. About 60 unemployed actors receive weekly checks ranging from $1 to $15 for work not on Darryl Zanuck’s payroll. A two year old who appeared in the Tyrone Power film is among claimants.

Shelby Bledsoe of the Roxton community brought in Lamar county’s first 1939 cotton bale. Weighing 464 pounds, it was grown on Mrs. J. W. Watson’s farm and ginned at Howland by Jesse Justiss with a full inch staple and middling grade. It sold to R M Craves Cotton Co of Paris for 10 14 cents per pound, totaling 47.56. Bledsoe won a $25 Chamber of Commerce prize for the first bale grown in the county.
Dren of Lamasco visited Mrs Bilhim Sunday while Mrs Sam Harris and family returned home after visiting relatives in Louisiana. Mr and Mrs Lee Leonard and children joined Fob Hemphill and Elvin Leonard. Hick Scott and family from Lamesa visit Gum Springs, crops look fine. Weaver Funeral Home in charge. Born Nov 3 1888 the infant died this morning in Sherman hospital. Parents survive. Interment in English Cemetery.
