Church Dedication Reaches Debt Free Milestone at $25,000 Edifice
The Methodist Episcopal Church in this city completed a 15 month project and was dedicated by Dr. Charles H. Payne. Subscriptions exceeded $9,347 at dawn and grew to $9,601 by evening, funding $8,000 debt clearance. Donors ranged from $1,000 to $5 to 10 and 25 dollars. The building, designed by Chas. H. Trial of will contest and related cases in circuit court
The circuit court heard five cases last week with Judge Whitelock. The Effinger will case consumed four days and was taken under advisement. Melinda A. Earhart vs Sparks, a contest of George Sparks's will, was called Friday and submitted to a jury. About fifty witnesses are in attendance as the trial proceeds. Other notes include judgments on notes for Carl Lang and John Studabaker against Nelson Trenary, and the Ratliff will contest set for trial. An affidavit charging Sanford Millington with larceny of potatoes and corn led to his arrest and imprisonment on $200 bail.
