A fierce hail storm struck the county causing extensive damage to growing crops. The downpour blanketed fields with hail as residents assess losses and seek relief. Local officials cordon the area and survey the agricultural impact.
Reports from Bluffton Huntington and surrounding areas describe a powerful hailstorm with wind that shredded corn stands, snapped trees, and broken windows. Farmers cite ruined crops, shattered greenhouses, and hundreds of window panes broken, with some losses insured and others not.
A Hik's club room meeting this afternoon considered final room plans for the new opera house. Mr DeLacour presented blueprints and will listen to proposals. Elks will decide soon and construction could start in early August. Delacour feels confident the house will be running soon.
William Clark reports losing a pocketbook yesterday on the west side. The purse held three one dollar bills, some change, a key ring check bearing his name and the emblem and number of the local lodge of Red Men. He asks for return of the lost items.
Reports in the Arkansas City Traveler claim the Dexter gas well emits 7.5 million cubic feet daily at 120 psi but will not ignite. Attempts to light the gas with a bonfire and a traction engine fail, as the flame is fanned but never catches. Nottingham township reports Cass White seeks an option on the output to fund a dubious device and dramatic demonstrations.
Alexander Debolt a Vera Cruz barber and his wife traveled to the city with two children when the infant 18 months old suddenly died. Dr Goodin arrived but the cause was unknown with the physician suspecting a ruptured blood vessel in the head. Funeral was held from the Debolt home in Vera Cruz. The infant was born June 2, 1903.
Emory Gotf observed a runaway in Vera Cruz Sunday evening when H Spehiger and wife met a carriage with a bicycle in the back. Spehiger's frightened horse ran, overturning the buggy and throwing occupants to the ground. Mrs Spehiger suffered facial scratches. Mr Spehiger was shaken but unhurt. Top torn. bystanders stopped the horse.
Dr. G Boulton treated a six year old boy who broke his collar bone after tripping and falling on a trail near the uak farm east of Mairview Cemetery. The injury was dressed with no serious consequences expected.
Captain Braun and his company received the regulation blue uniforms last night and a detail worked to unpack and distribute the hats coats shirts and trousers. The town approves and hopes for a street drill now that the unit is dressed alike.

He announced plans to reporters and caused a disturbance before marshal intervened to restore order.

He says the project could bring about 250,000 annually to the county through raw product and labor, with broader value if all packaging and shipping are locally produced.
Dr J C Fulton hosted six stockmen from various towns to view his short horn cattle. Frederick Melcher of Decatur bought a high grade cow with a three weeks old calf for 175. Frederick Steiner of Berne purchased a Merry Duke calf for 65. Others, including J J Leichty of Berne and William Bonke of Hoagland, showed interest in cows and calves. Fulton's herd near Murray includes about thirty short horn cattle and twenty seven young horses, with one two year old Prince colt previously offered at 200 that was declined.
Two boiler inspectors from Hartford City arrived in the city this morning and spent the day at the Fort Wayne pumping station north of the city. They found all boilers and alarms in order under Superintendent Tierman and praised Herman for his care of the plant.
A late commencement is set for Friday evening July 24 at Dillman to mark the start of the Jackson township common activities. The event invites residents and nearby neighbors to attend the opening ceremony and related proceedings.
Five pupils will receive their diplomas with Mrs. Boucher of Marion giving the class address. An orchestra from Warren will provide music and County Superintendent Hiuyette will present the diplomas. No admission will be charged. The exercises were postponed last spring due to road conditions.
