A Christmas reunion at Mrs Elizabeth Reynolds home in Beuna Vista brought twenty five relatives and friends together for a festive dinner on Christmas Day. Attendees included Mrs E A Nichols Kreps Mrs J C Pox Mrs S J Fouts and others with A J Reynolds at the home farm. Rev Turney led prayers and songs ending with God be with you till we meet again. A Bluffton photographed guest followed.
The Wells county central committee met last Saturday at Bluffton city hall with hundreds present. They endorsed Grover Cleveland, repealed the McKinley tariff, and supported a gold and silver standard while approving A N Martin as a Democratic leader. The committee fixed a January 13 1894 primary under Australian ballot rules for multiple county and township offices and outlined eligibility and reporting procedures.
Ed Engeler and George Hennefort of Vera Cruz suffered severe facial burns on New Year’s Eve while firing a small cannon to celebrate. Engeler held the device as powder ignited, flashed to the powder box, injuring both boys and risking loss of Engeler’s left eye.
W H Davis declares he is not backed by any faction, street order, or pledged votes and has no connection to a group called the Pure Democracy. He states he is a candidate of no political order and was brought out by no combining influence.
Poneto district updates include Mrs. Homer Roof sick, Mrs. Amos Davis and Mrs. James Burgess visiting Bluffton, and Mrs. Benj Smith improving from lung fever. C R Thomas repairs a saw mill stack as readers await a new Banner serial, with extensive Neway news and a somber note on Mrs. Wm Jordon's serious illness. Notable travels include Prof J W McCaslin to Chicago with stops, and Uncle Josiah W L Rouse named Lake Erie agent, arriving from Belfast to join the main L E W line.

Nellie Craig acted as cashier during Ada Hatfield’s illness. The City Band performed at Markle Monday with the drama Among the Breakers, netting a small sum. The first social of the year was at Miss Nellie Craig’s home for Miss Nettie Spencer. Nettie Spencer visited Bluffton Tuesday after staying with Lida Lepper and others. M E Spencer was absent late in 1893 but appointed a deputy until his return from the northeast in 1894. Beother Gerrell of Payne, Ohio visits. Devona Double of Kingsland, studying at Huntington, visited Catie Salisbury.
