Elmer Betts died at home at 8 PM the day of the Poneto boiler explosion. Doctors removed a skull fragment seeking relief, but he never regained consciousness. He leaves a wife Lulu, five children, an aged mother, a brother in Montpelier, and a sister in Ohio. Funeral was Friday at Poneto Baptist Church, burial in Grove Cemetery. Born 1863 in Crawford County Ohio, he settled in Poneto in 1884 and married Lulu Roof in 1885.

Clark Studabaker issued another license on Thursday for George Harris aged 19 and Alta Cesnes aged 18 of Chester township. They were married Saturday night at the bride’s parents’ home.

William E L Jones sues Harry Mount by Mock Sons for quiet title in Wells County Indiana. A M Jennings deemed non resident. plaintiff seeks default by filing complaint and affidavit. Case 8010 set for February 1904 at Bluffton Courthouse. Clerk Hugh Studabaker signs the notice.
Hugh S. Stout, a Harrison township male over 21, applies at the Wells County January term 1904 for a one year liquor license to sell spiritous vinous and malt liquors in quantities less than a quart with on premises drinking at room on Lot 64 Cook’s addition Poneto. The room fronts Walnut street at Cherry, 20 by 30 feet, no partitions, connected to no other business, with a lunch counter requested. request to be decided by the Wells County Board of Commissioners.
