Passersby report smoke from the Number Ten saloon roof at 9 pm revealing a two–alarm fire in upper rooms. A bucket brigade and fire hoses saved nearby stock as building burns likely hastening plans for a new brick structure and relocation to Huntington after insurance details.
A new traction company, Interstate Traction, secured a Grant county franchise to run from Marion west to Landesville Van Buren and east to Lima. Rates are capped at 10 cents to Landesville, 5 cents to Van Buren, 5 cents to the county line, with a maximum 2 cents per mile. Inside rail must stay 15 feet from highways, new crossings only, and the line may parallell highway routes.
N. K. Todd learns of his uncle John Glass's sudden death at his Ossian area home from heart failure at age about fifty. Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at the home. The same edition notes bridge-site inspections by county commissioners and debate over Presdorf road delays, plus a requested three year extension by tax experts which was denied.
The funeral of Mrs Margaret Tribolet, who died yesterday, was conducted this afternoon at the West Market street home by Rev L A Beeks. Interment followed at Fairview cemetery.

Leon Grimes, son of Mraz George Grimes, has a mild diphtheria case. Health officer Dr. W S Cheney says this is the only case in town with quarantine in place. Two exposures, Hugh Marshall and a son of Mr and Mrs Will Walmer, were fumigated. no widespread fear. Also reports a surprise party at Treoks Baumgardner’s home for his birthday with about 25 guests enjoying games and a taffy pull.
