Beckelheimer Named to West Virginia Sports Writers Hall of Fame

Former Morris Harvey College tackle and coach Herman Roy Beckelheimer is inducted as the 45th Hall of Fame member. The WV sports writers honor recognizes his 1913 Morris Harvey football career including a 0-0 tie with WVU and a scoreless game vs VMI, followed by five years coaching the Golden Eagles.

All-State 1912 Bowler Beckelheimer Honored

Bowling standings and all state team honor recognize Beckelheimer, a Montgom ery Prep alumnus who played at Morris Harvey and Vanderbilt. He coached at Bethany and Southern Colleges and later served Fayette County as sheriff. Born December 25, 1886, he retired in Fayetteville after a long real estate and oil career.

Jeter delivers walkoff sacrifice in Pirates win

John Jeter scored on Jose Pagan's sacrifice fly in the seventh to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3 over the New York Mets and tighten the NL East race. The win leaves Pittsburgh three games from clinching. Mets and Cubs still trail by four and a half with five or four games left.
