Kimball War Memorial needs $900000 remodel in West Virginia
A grassroots coalition in McDowell County has raised more than 515000 for the Kimball War Memorial renovation, the only U S site honoring over 400000 African American World War I veterans. The project, part of a 15 year effort, follows a 400062 grant plus 25000 and 25000 gifts, with Swope Construction to handle work as renovation costs exceed 900000. The memorial has stood since 1928, once a community hub, now a shell due to time neglect and a fire amid coal decline.
