Cartier Watches Destroyed by U S Customs Steamroller
U S Customs officials crushed 4,000 fake Cartier watches worth about 1 million dollars with an eight ton steamroller in Los Angeles. Cartier International chairman Alain Perrin supervised as the fakes were flattened at the San Ysidro crossing after seizure in December 1978 under a new counterfeit destruction rule. The watches had been imported from Paris and destroyed under the new law. The action marks the first destruction of counterfeit merchandise under the 1978 rule.
