Power outage cuts Carson finale for Visalia viewers

A power outage in Visalia California disrupted Continental Cablevision's relay of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show about 15 minutes before the end. About 315 customers lost NBC signal from KSEE-TV Fresno. Crews worked overnight and power was restored to all but six by 3 a.m. Local residents voiced frustration, calling the Times-Delta and the cable company.

Closure plan threatens recipients in Bluefield and nearby towns

A Bush administration plan to close black lung field offices in Beckley Bluefield and Norton Virginia would force recipients to use a toll free number. The closures aim to cut costs but would reduce in person help for about 1 200 area residents served by Bluefield last year including more than 100 walk ins monthly and 350 to 400 callers each month.
