Spectacular Car Crash Injures Three Spanishburg Youths
Three Spanishburg high school youths were hospitalized with injuries after a 1939 Ford left the Matoaka road near Lake Shawnee about 11:15 am Wednesday and flipped seven times. Glenn E. Stovall 20 Herman Maxwell 17 Beecher Cole 18 were treated for head and body injuries with uncertain extent. Witnesses said the car sped around 60 mph before leaving the road, flew 50 feet, slid 17 yards on its top, and rolled seven times, stopping 450 feet from the road. Stovall stayed with the car.

Four moonshine stills were confiscated Tuesday in raids led by Sheriff Crumpecker and aides. Three sixty-gallon stills were found in Rock district near Thornhill and Peel Chestnut, and a thirty-five gallon outfit was located in Jumping Branch district. An officer fired up the last still hoping a fleeing operator would return. Deputies Elmore Martin Cook Huffman and constables Boyd and Christian assisted.
