The panel, based on Holt's inaugural and legislative message, will organize and discuss personnel needs for the two week study period.
New York May 6 John J Raskob multimillionaire industrialist paid no income tax for 1930 though his stock transactions totaled millions of dollars The tax hearing against Pierre S Pont revealed a net stock loss of 448 925 and a 728 400 profit in Warner Brothers stock two separate sheets showed the vast sums involved The government seeks 1 800 000 in taxes and credits Through the hearing reporters viewed the return with government counsel noting the maze of financial dealings between DuPont and Raskob The defense argued deductions and legality of the losses as taxable income were debated
Beaver High School students petition Mercer County Board of Education to reconsider omitting several teachers from the roster. Chas H Archer and J P Bobbitt met with a student committee bearing a letter urging reappointment of Mrs W Jackson Miss Maude Rimmer and Mr Lesong for continued loyal service to the school and community.
Chief Justice Hughes called for maintaining an independent judiciary during remarks to the American Law Institute. He defended strong judicial authority and rejected panels to ease workload, while noting the court is current with its duties amid Senate Judiciary Committee debates on Roosevelt court reorganization.
Mercer county schools plan a full term closing June 1 according to county superintendent Charles H. Archer. Present indications show the term will run a complete session as estimated.
Brig. Gen. Henry H. Denhardt was freed on $25,000 bail after a jury hung seven to five for acquittal on the murder charge of his fiancé Verna Garr Taylor. Circuit Judge Marshall set the case for a future date as Denhardt heads to Louisville then Bowling Green.
Charleston May 6. West Virginia public assistance director A W Garnett says several states including Georgia Maryland Ohio and Indiana have studied the Mountaineer system. Georgia will send Lamar Murdaugh and staff for a three day review while others request manuals and regulations. West Virginia is described as a pattern for states adopting public assistance practices.

Lewisburg West Virginia May 6 A coroner jury exonerated Corporal Harley Locke and Constables Lester Groves and Ross Martin in the fatal forest gun battle near Anjean with a Negro wanted for questioning about Pete Anthony's death. The three officers survived prior injuries from earlier incidents.
Nashville Tennessee May 6 Governor Gordon appoints Maj George L Berry federal industrial coordinator to the U S senate to succeed the late Nathan L Bachman of Chattanooga The announcement follows the death of Bachman from a heart attack in Washington on April 23
The Hin denburg, the world’s largest airship, was ripped apart by an explosion at Lakehurst New Jersey on May 6. The disaster sent the craft crashing to the naval field in flames. About one third of those aboard were killed with exact fatalities still disputed as flames engulfed the wreck.
The American Zeppelin firm, via Harry Bruno, reported 33 dead of 97 aboard with 44 crew survivors and 20 passengers among the dead. The disaster left survivors in New Jersey hospitals in critical condition, with Captain Ernst Lehman and Max Pruss among the injured. The Hindenburg, 803 feet long with four 1000 horsepower engines, carried 40 crew and 50 passengers plus 15 tons payload.
The Los Angeles inquiry into director William Desmond Taylor’s 1915 murder is revived as James Kirkwood’s name appears before a county grand jury. District Attorney Baron Fitts cautions the lead is of limited significance while details of a rumored affair with Mary Miles Minter surface.
