Abducted by a Stranger in Ripplemead Case
Giles County investigators confirmed a stranger abduction of 2 year old Noah Trout from Riverview Baptist Church nursery in Ripplemead. Nancy Fridley and her boyfriend Bobby Lee Taylor face abduction and drug possession charges. The boy was found safe in Alleghany County after being taken Sunday morning. There is no credible connection between Fridley and the child or family members.

Trial continues for Mercer man accused of first degree murder
The Mercer County case against Timothy Paul Hager, 24, of Bluefield, resumes in circuit court after lengthy interviews with the defendant and expert witness testimony. Hager is charged with first degree murder in the July 11, 2019 shooting death of Joshua Rasnick at Hager’s Stony Ridge Road home. An AK-47 and 30 round magazine were recovered outside the residence. Rasnick was found shot twice near the front door. Detective Sommers testified and aid labeling a photograph during proceedings.

Tazewell County weighs cigarette tax hike to fund local spending
Tazewell County Board of Supervisors voted to include a cigarette tax in the 2021 22 budget beginning July 1 with a June hearing. The tax would apply only to cigarettes, not vaping or other tobacco products, and could raise about 250000 to help fund 115 million in local spending including 5 percent raises for locally funded school staff deputies and deputy court clerks.
