Princeton grad published and Mother's Day luncheon listed

Dalé Bailey a 1986 Princeton High School graduate has a story titled Touched selected for The Best of Fantasy and Fiction 45th Anniversary Anthology to be issued in October. He lives in Knoxville teaches at the University of Tennessee and pursues a PhD while awaiting several forthcoming pieces in Amazing Stories and Pulphouse. A Mother’s Day luncheon hosted by First National Bank and Lifestyle 50 is set for May 6 at the Holiday Inn Bluefield with a $7 buffet, reservations via Barbara Moore Ray or Linda Melvin. Cancer patient Margaret Page fights for care in Virginia

Margaret Page of Bluefield Virginia, diagnosed with breast cancer in September 1992, lacks insurance and a state health card. Her husband is a disabled veteran with heart disease. Despite tentative acceptance for chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Virginia health programs deny cover and transportation costs. Page continues to seek aid from the American Cancer Society and local groups, stressing the need for affordable treatment for cancer patients and families.

Walk-a-thon to raise funds for cancer awareness

The 22nd annual American Cancer Society Memorial Walk-a-Thon will be held Sunday May 15 at Bluefield City Park. Chair Doris Sue Kantor says the goal is to maintain the top state fund raiser status with 10 miles around the park starting 7 45 a m rain or shine. Sixty cents of each dollar stays in West Virginia to fund local services. Mildred Belcher of Princeton, 74, has walked 21 years raising almost 200000. Pledge sheets and food provided by local groups and sponsors support walkers who may raise any amount from 5 to 154.

Local Cancer Society offers support services and education

The Mercer and McDowell County unit of the American Cancer Society provides Read To Recovery volunteer visits for women cancer patients, Road to Recovery driver transport to treatments, free hospital equipment loans, wig centers at Bluefield Regional Medical Center and Princeton Community Hospital, free smoking cessation classes, youth tobacco education to 17,717 students, up to date physician education, Camp Winaca for children with cancer, and the Look Good Feel Better program for female patients run by local licensed cosmetologists.
