Pocahontas Field Loads 50 667 Tons During Walkout
Coal production at Pocahontas bituminous field totaled 50 667 tons in the first week of the current strike. The Pocahontas Operators Association announced the figure, compared with 645 489 tons the prior year and 649 466 tons the week before the walkout. The strike began March 15 with only half the mines working, three mines active Tuesday, one on Wednesday, and closure on Thursday. Loading came mainly from truck mines still operating.

Atlanta March 26 A Waiter George for president move gained momentum in Georgia. Two top leaders in Herman Tal madge s political organization plumped for the senior Georgia senator as the Democratic presidential nominee. They said President Truman didn t have a chance to win. State Democratic Chairman James Peters said the veteran Georgia senator would bring more votes to the party this year than Truman. Another spokesman Zack Cravey predicted the Georgia delegation would enter George for president. Both Peters and Cravey are long time leaders in Talmadge politics. Herman Talmadge was not available for comment. Previously he had indicated Democrats should nominate some good southerner. In Washington George said they committee down there might instruct delegates anyway, but I have not consented to anyone.
