Barneys artificial heart life ends in Utah clinic
In Salt Lake City AP reports Barney Clark’s 112 day fight with the artificial heart ended when doctors stopped the device after Clark’s organs failed. Surgeon Dr. William DeVries described Clark as a medical pioneer and said the decision followed hours without neurological response and family consultation. Clark, 62, died at 10 02 p m MST. An autopsy followed and a Seattle funeral was planned.
