The Norfolk and Western Railway Company relief and pension department announced that members of the relief fund received 19031.83 in benefits for the three months ending December 31. Receipts for the period totaled 201724.10, raising the fund balance to 5224103.26, 99214 more than Dec 31, 1946. Since inception in July 1917, members and families have been paid 17750103.34 in sickness, accident and death benefits. the railway covers operating costs totaling 3977370 from 1917 through Dec 1947.

Witness Describes Price Cut War in Glass Industry
In Toledo on March 1 a witness testified in the Anti trust suit against eight glass manufacturers that a price cutting war in 1934 led by Pittsburgh Plate Glass created a district hardship for smaller independents. Nestor Scohy, former Scohy Sheet Glass secretary, said the cuts softened opposition and helped form Fourco Glass to squeeze out small firms.

Truman Name May Appear on Virginia Ballot
Richmond March 11 Governor William M. Tuck aims to keep Virginia from endorsing Truman by a bill that would place the president’s name on the November ballot if the national convention certifies him. The measure seeks to leverage electoral votes to influence the national party while allowing two Democratic slates if needed. Coal output in January rose to 15,487,614 tons, up from 15,057,918 tons a year earlier.
