Country Boys Rally To Push Crockett Annexation Bill
In the Virginia House of Delegates the "country boys" revived the Crockett annexation bill by discharging the counties cities and towns committee and sending it to the floor for possible action tomorrow. The bill would require a majority of voters in an area to approve annexation for a city's suit, with amendments proposed to exempt cities already in proceedings and lower the approval to 24 percent. The move won 54 to 35. Also, the House passed a measure allowing electric cooperatives to provide telephone service to subscribers. The Senate advanced the anti communist bill making it a felony to advocate overthrow of government by force.

State Purchases Hit By Charges Open Letters List

Bondholders Sue Railway Over Obsolete Atlantic and Danville Line
Bondholders of the Atlantic and Danville Railway filed a 6 million dollar damage suit in Richmond federal court against the Southern Railway. They allege the Southern has left the A and D line run down since 1898 under lease, risking inefficiency and loss of franchise when the lease ends July 1949. Bill targets deliveries to prisoners in Virginia
Richmond March 3 A senate committee favored a bill making it a misdemeanor to deliver or attempt to deliver any articles to persons confined in penal institutions without the permission of the person in charge. Major Frank Smyth testified inmates’ protection and noted no current law covers such actions. The bill, sponsored by Senator A. E. Stephens, would apply to both delivery and attempted delivery.

Red Cross Drive Starts Strong in Bluefield District
Red Cross volunteers report a promising start to the drive aiming at 19800 dollars for Bluefield and surrounding areas. Rural Carrier Position Offered at Bluefield Exam Date
The U S Civil Service Commission will examine applicants for a rural carrier job at Bluefield on March 18. Postmaster R L Bailey said the 30 mile route pays 2020 a year plus 20 per mile beyond 30.
