Two Pennsy Mines Closed By Strikes
Strikes involving 2,500 miners today closed two western Pennsylvania mines. The Vesta No 5 of Jones and Laughlin Steel at Denbo in Washington County was shut as 1,706 miners demanded removal of a cutter and foreman for an alleged safety code violation. The company said the infraction was too slight for discipline. A demand for a full day’s pay for a half hour on duty yesterday by 800 miners closed Weirton Steel Co.'s Isabella mine in Fayette County. management said the men could not work due to trip trouble.
