West Virginia Faces Return Vote On Workers Comp Bill

Gov Bob Wise said the Workers Compensation Bill approved in a special session will be reapproved due to technical cleanups. The bill may be revised and sent back for a second vote while the grant committee proposal for 215 million in economic development funds and 16 other items awaits action. The legislature recessed June 14 without passing the grant bill after a May state Supreme Court ruling found the original setup violated separation of powers. The court noted the nine member panel was improperly balanced. Lawmakers plan to amend so the Legislature has final approval over funded projects while the governor would appoint all nine grant committee members. The governor’s 18 point agenda faces no major controversies, though delegate attendance is uncertain as many are on vacation or otherwise unavailable. Senate Republicans expect a quorum of 18 of 34 members.
