Ex-fugitive lawyer acquitted in 1971 San Quentin riot
Stephen Bingham, once a 13 year fugitive, is acquitted of two counts of murder and one conspiracy count in Marin County Superior Court over the 1971 San Quentin riot that left six dead. The jury rejected the theory he supplied the pistol to George Jackson during an attorney client visit. Bingham, 44, faced life if convicted. He thanked supporters and said the verdict shows enduring belief in doing what is right. Prosecutor Terry Boren voiced disappointment but respected the jury’s decision.
