Defendants' Bids For Appeal Are Rejected

The 4th U S Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the convictions of five Logan County officials from West Virginia for conspiring to rig a 1970 primary election. Senators, sheriffs, clerks and a deputy were found guilty of ballot box stuffing and perjury in Mt Gay precinct. The court rejected arguments that federal power did not apply to a state election and found no merit in defense motions for pretrial hearings and discovery.
