Phone negotiators still split on contract terms at AT&T
Washington AP reports negotiators for 76,000 long distance workers and AT&T reached a new contract but key provisions for about 47,000 other employees stalled a nationwide strike. Agreement is close for 36,000 operators in the Communications Division and 32,000 in four other divisions, while talks continue over 35,000 Information Systems workers and 12,000 contracted government workers. About 155,000 CWA members walked out on June 1, the largest U.S. labor strike in three years.
