United Auto Workers leaders convene in Las Vegas as strikes at GM plants in Flint, Michigan, loom over talks. The two plants have halted production for days, affecting about 115,000 GM workers and threatening public support if shutdowns stretch into July. UAW President Stephen Yokich appears secure for another term.
Wirt County toppled Calhoun for the state's highest unemployment rate in May as Mercer and Monroe counties both posted 4.9 percent. Summers 8.9 percent, down from 10.4. McDowell 10.7, down from 11.5. Wirt 13.8, down from 16. Calhoun 11.8, third-highest. Mingo 12.7, Jefferson 2.9 lowest.
