King Coal Highway bridges to narrow to two lanes
King Coal Highway in Bluefield will gain two new bridges over Bull Tail Hollow Road and Kee Dam to extend to Airport Road. After Christine West Bridge the four lane highway will narrow to two lanes for the southbound and two way traffic across each bridge. Project cost exceeds 57 million dollars with completion aimed for late 2021.

West Virginia education omnibus bill advances in special session
In Charleston the West Virginia House of Delegates resumed the education special session as the Senate omnibus bill moved forward. Democrats tried twice to block it. Committee C set aside the Student Success Act and advanced House Bill 206, which passed out of committee 14 to 8. The House bill diverges from Senate Bill 1039, removing strike illegality language and capping charter numbers.

Former youth basketball coach charged with sexual mistreatment
James Anthony Tony Collins 36 formerly of Bluefield, a Mercer County youth league coach, was indicted on charges including second-degree sexual incident and first-degree sexual mistreatment for an April incident involving a 14-year-old girl. A detective’s complaint alleges Collins forced sex after giving rides to juveniles.
