Supreme Court bars states from extra citizenship proof for federal voter forms
The court ruled 7-2 that states may not require citizenship documents beyond the federal form and must seek federal panel or court approval to tighten voter registration rules. Arizona cannot enforce Proposition 200's proof requirements and must rely on the federal form. Justice Scalia wrote the majority, while Justices Thomas and Alito dissented.
