Indictment in Booth 7-11 robbery closes long probe
A Galax Virginia man faces charges for the November 3 1980 armed robbery of a 7-11 on Bluefield Avenue in which clerk Daryl Booth was shot. After a year and a half of police work led by Lt Jim Dent and Det Curtis Honaker a photo lineup and personal lineup helped Booth identify Adkins as the shooter. Police say over 1500 hours and about 2000 miles were logged in the investigation, and the case was the result of a coordinated multi agency effort.

Shrewsbury Seeks 10 Percent Cap On Property Tax Hikes
Mercer County Assessor Winifrey Shrewsbury joins West Virginia assessors in seeking a statewide cap on property tax increases at 10 percent per year. The measure, urged after recent court decisions, would apply to regular levies but not new construction or voter-approved bonds. The resolution, approved in Charleston, will be sent to the Legislature for possible constitutional or statutory changes.
