Washington AP The Hinckley trial entered its eighth week as a panel of five men and seven women was instructed to deliberate without sympathy or compassion on whether he should be convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity. The 32 hours of deliberations followed a month of testimony, exhibits, and defense claims about Hinckley’s psychosis, with jurors aged 22 to 64 and including private and government employees. Judge Parker warned of the possible commitment to St Elizabeths Hospital if found not guilty by reason of insanity, and a release hearing would occur within 50 days if such verdict emerged.
