West Virginia officials seek coal deals with 22 utilities abroad
West Virginia coal officials plan to contact 22 utility companies across six states and Europe to boost sales as Dan Green of the Coal Development Authority cautions of continued declines. New CDA director David Marple notes 52 million tons of US coal exported last year, with 22 million from West Virginia, and aims to curb boom bust cycles. The effort includes promoting conversion from oil to coal and advancing a Raleigh County coke plant with a projected $32 million cost, dependent on buyers.
