Senate leaders fast tracked a relief bill after a 14 hour House session. Subcommittee will review Tuesday as WPA funds near June 30 expiration and discussions consider adding 500 million for PWA programs and public works while avoiding tax or debt triggers.
Government officials consider a plan to curb Japan's purchases of scrap iron and steel by using a 10 year average of U S shipments. The proposal would set a maximum yearly limit around 500 000 tons and reduce Japan's intake to about one third of prior volumes.
