Senate approves burn pit benefits expanding veterans care nationwide
The Senate voted 84 to 14 to extend health care and disability benefits for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans exposed to burn pits, extending VA coverage 10 years post discharge, presuming linked respiratory illnesses and cancers, with costs about 283 billion over 10 years. The measure also broadens Agent Orange presumptions to Vietnam era veterans and regions including Thailand and Guam. President Biden urged swift House action to sign into law.
