Plan to end state taxes spurs Property Tax Modernization Amendment
BLUEFIELD plans a statewide move to end the state equipment and inventory tax and personal property taxes. Replacement revenue would come from the state to counties. Voters will decide in November. State Sen. Chandler Swope champions the measure calling it key to job growth and investment. He cites hundreds of companies leaving West Virginia over these taxes and projects about 500 million dollars annually in replacement funding.
