Giles Supervisors Adopt $11 Million Budget in Pike County
Giles County Supervisors approved an $11,077,733 operating budget for 1983-84 after a public hearing. The plan includes a projected $328,540 planning deficit and a proposed utility tax of $1 per month on residential bills and $10 on the first $30 of commercial bills to cover part of the shortfall. The tax requires approval by August 1 and faces opposition from residents and some supervisors who prefer borrowing or cutting fringe benefits. A final public hearing is set for June 30 at 2 p.m. The board also added $4,009 to the county health department budget funded from a $20,000 indigent hospitalization allotment.
