Two more arrests were made in the slaying of Frank Maxie at a beer parlor and tourist camp in Kelleysville. Authorities recovered a 32 automatic pistol buried beneath a porch, suspecting it was planted. Harris claimed he fired after Mazie advanced with a pistol, while Hodges and Souders were held for investigation.
Matthew White, 21, shot dead on the Kingston Pocahontas Coal store porch in Hemphill. Burley McComas, payroll guard, posted $10,000 bond after waiving preliminary hearing on murder charges. McComas testified he acted in self defense during a knife threat and scuffle witnessed by Larry Blevins and Rufus Mitchell.
The Public Service Commission ordered the Virginian railway to cut its coal rate from 88 to 45 cents per ton between Summerlee and West Deepwater if a Kanawha river tipple is built to provide river transport. The change targets shipments from Summerlee Lochgelly Whipple and Oakwood to West Deepwater, aiding coal companies New River Coal and White Oak in expanding outlet to Kanawha valley industries.
Charleston West Virginia June 12 the state planning board created by Governor Kump in 1935 will meet Tuesday to decide its fate after July 1. The six state officials and three private citizens are unpaid and rely on government departments and the governor’s contingent fund for support. W P Wilson of Wheeling chairs the board which has studied state problems and may aid the interim committee revising statutes and shaping how primary aid to schools is distributed.
The Soviet government announced the execution of Marshal Michail N. Tukhachevsky and seven generals for treason by firing squad after a military tribunal verdict. The case centers on alleged loyalty to a foreign power, widely viewed as Germany, with Kyiv and Minsk border defenses bolstering Kremlin resolve.
Elizabethtown Illinois June 12. Harry Whitehead 97 a former slave and Civil War veteran filed suit for divorce from Anna Whitehead 84 also a former slave. He says they wed September 11 1907 and she deserted him about a year ago to live with her son Willard in Anderson Indiana.
Bluefield posts plan a full Independence Day program led by Harry Kammer with band concerts, drum and bugle corps drills, athletic events, a 16-piece pyrotechnic display, and a parade at Bluefield Stadium. Eight invited corps become twelve attending. events run 9:30 a.m. to evening climax.

About 1,600 of 2,220 members were present as W J Jenck praised the group and Dusty Miller offered humor. R J Snapp urged members to use influence and vote to improve railroad conditions, and Arthur Chase Needles was honored posthumously. L C Ayers of Roanoke was elected president, with R P Phenix and J S Mastin named to key posts.
